Restore a Jira Cloud workflow from an in-site snapshot
When production is wrong, do not rebuild by hand. Pick a daily or manual snapshot already in the site, restore in one click, then verify the live definition. Company-managed workflows only. Free for teams ≤10.
30-day trial · Free for teams ≤10 · then about USD 2/user/mo

This page is the restore job
Three related jobs get mixed up. Keep them separate:
- Backup — how to keep daily and manual snapshots in the site so you have something to restore later.
- Rollback — the incident path after a bad import: restore the pre-change snapshot, then re-validate the package.
- This guide — the restore job itself: pick a snapshot → one-click restore → verify the live workflow (after a bad edit, a bad import, or any wrong production state).
02 — When you need restore
Production is wrong; a known-good snapshot exists
- Bad hand-edit — someone changed statuses or transitions on production and boards broke.
- Bad import / promote — a package wrote the wrong definition (see also the rollback guide).
- Yesterday was fine — a daily snapshot is still in the site; you want that definition back without hunting a JSON file on a laptop.
Native Cloud still has no “restore this workflow from last week” control. Without in-site snapshots you rebuild from memory, audit history, or another site.
03 — Restore checklist
Pick snapshot → restore → verify
- Confirm you have snapshots — daily backups on, plus a manual snapshot before risky edits/imports. If you do not, open the backup guide first.
- Pick the snapshot — choose the known-good daily or manual point (by time/label), not “whatever is newest after the bad write.”
- Restore in one click — Easy Workflows writes that definition back to the company-managed workflow. Before every update/restore it also snapshots the previous definition, so you keep a trail.
- Verify — spot-check critical transitions on a test issue; optionally compare live vs the intended package; if you will re-import, validate read-only until Ready.
04 — Daily + manual snapshots
What you restore from
- Daily snapshots — automatic cadence so yesterday’s good state is still in the site.
- Manual snapshots — take one before every import, promote, or large edit.
- In-site, not a laptop JSON — definitions stay on Atlassian infrastructure (Forge, no egress by design). Restore does not depend on finding last week’s download.
05 — Scope (honesty)
Company-managed only · Forge · not cheaper-than-Wizard at 25+
This path is for company-managed Jira Cloud workflows. It is not a team-managed workflow tool, not issue backup, and not a full Configuration Manager for screens, fields, and every scheme type. Easy Workflows runs on Atlassian Forge: snapshots and history stay in your site. Free for teams ≤10; 30-day trial; then about USD 2/user/mo via Atlassian. We do not claim to undercut Workflow Wizard at larger seat counts (25+) — pick the tool that matches the job.
